Grouping nested elements based on a common element with LINQ
I'm trying to group elements in a list based on their relationship to a common element, which is easy enough to do. The problem comes when I have a nested element inside the group, for example:
(a,b) -> b
(b,c) -> c
(b,d) -> d
(a,d) -> d
Since there's no common element between (a,b) and (a,d), I'd like to leave (a,b) in the list because it is a subset of (a,d). Likewise (a,d) is a subset of (b,d), so I'd like to include both.
The other issue is that (a,b) and (a,d) have the same value, while (b,c) and (b,d) have different values. I can't find a solution that allows the groupings to match this.
I've tried doing the groups with one enumeration and then excluding the sub-group when checking for equality, and I've tried using two enumerations and joining them together, but neither seem to give me the result I want. Any ideas?

You can just group by the first element, then look at the value of the second and choose based on that:
