After recovering from backup I can see the whole drive and a lot of files. I can open and save to some files. I can also tell the server to go online and it shows up as a new network device, but it fails to show up in windows or in the domain. I can however access the server by it IP address.
Before this happened the windows 10 was installed on a diff computer. I did some updates and the SBS was running fine. I just did a restore from backup and it went just fine. So I will try to make a new installtion and then restore from the backup. Maybe this will fix the problem. If I did something wrong during the installtion of the windows 10 I would like to know what it was.
I have a Windows 8.1 on a diff computer that is working just fine. I tried to do a repair on the SBS via the USB-stick with Windows disk management. It recognized the drive just fine. No problem. So I assume it is not a hardware problem. I have a full backup on another drive and I will try to make a new installtion and then restore from the backup. Also I made a image backup of the SBS using the backup software and I will try to restore from that. Maybe this will fix the problem.
I used a harddrive and some cd-roms before this happened. No other software than an windows service pack that I started during the setup. No other software have been installed. On a diff boot I got the same problem. On this boot I tried the repair before the restore. Now I want to do something about the problem.
The advantage of using SBS is that it gives you a Web Interface for control of the server. You can also install additional software that will be made available for use through the Web interface. The biggest advantage of Windows Small Business Server is that it is inexpensive. You can install a service pack and it does not cost as much as a new server. It does not require the use of a third party consultant to install the server. This can save thousands of dollars.
