The Commodore 64 is a good example of a machine which is still in circulation and still selling well. I bought mine from eBay at a reasonable price about ten years ago. It has been an absolute blast ever since, with no end of hours spent on it. It is, as so many people have told me, a true gaming beast. It's the same with my Amstrad CPC 664, which is still kicking about, even though I have played it daily for about 25 years. Both of these machines have a real history of games and not just games that came later. They were around at the start. When I think about the five most important games I remember having as a child, four of them came out on the C64:- Civilisation, which was released in March of 1984 - I was fascinated by this because it was my first experience of a computer game. I also loved the idea of inventing my own world (and then having it blown up in my face). It was probably one of the most challenging games for a young boy.- Super Mario Bros, which came out in December of 1985 - This also remains one of the most important games in my life.- The Hobbit, which was released in October of 1987 - This is one that I played a lot on the VIC20 (Videotron I have no idea if this is a real game or not, probably not), but I did get a copy of the C64 version as well. I really liked the characters and atmosphere of the film and of course, the game. As with Civilisation, I was very interested in the idea of inventing my own world (and then getting it blown up in my face).- Doom, which was released in May of 1993 - This game was a revelation to me. I have since played a lot of other games, but this was the first time I had played a game that was so fast and furious. I was hooked from the start and never wanted to stop playing. That list was written without the aid of any internet search. I can't begin to think how much else I would have written. 827ec27edc
