This implementation of SAI FlexiSign Pro 2020 incorporates extensions to the FlexiSign Pro features which allow a more precise and comprehensive stress analysis to be performed. The predicted stress is applied to a 3-D tooth model, with the inclusion of a supporting bone and dental tissues. FlexiSign Pro 2020 stresses the tooth by simulating occlusal normal forces as indicated by Miller and Blair’s amalgam paraboloid [3]. These functions allow for an analysis of the maximum von Mises (MvM) stress distribution acting on the tooth’s root [34]. The direct von Mises analysis uses the parameters specified in Table 1 for a flexi sign with a limitless height. So, this analysis precisely represents the MvM strain energy acting within the supporting bone and dental tissues. The von Mises stress on the external surface of the tooth is the maximum MvM strain energy acting on the tooth root. The maximum tensile stress acting on the tooth root is also obtained. The tensile stress on the crown is the maximum tensile stress acting on the tooth, and, therefore, it is more influential on crown failure than root failure. Nanz et al. [34] conducted a finite element analysis in which the flexi sign represented a tooth supported by the cementum. The study by Nannz et al. [34] used 2-mm-thick tooth crowns and a single loading from the incisal edge to the occlusal surface while using von Mises stress analysis. The values of von Mises stress for bending strength presented by Nanz et al. [34] ranged from 6352 to 13350 MPa and from 6254 to 10860 MPa, for the right-side tooth, and from 7924 to 13473 MPa, and from 6252 to 13467 MPa, for the left-side tooth. In the present model, the MvM stress analysis was applied to a tooth model constructed from a 3-D algorithm. In the research of Nannz et al. [34], flexi signs of 25, 50 and 75 mm in length were tested, and different types of limiting boundary conditions were applied to the far end of the flexi signs. By using the parameters listed in Table 1, the MvM stress distribution can be analyzed for flexi signs of various lengths with respect to their location of connection to the supporting bone. d2c66b5586
