Metta said that it is working with Optiva, Advanced Radiological Technology, Ven-A-Mate and Siemens to develop the new radiation dose indicator, set to appear on the new Siemens Acuson Siemens product range of equipment and tracers.
The new directive from the FDA is a version of its community is the June 18 draft of its medical devices guidelines, which "calls for reduced radiation doses and other health protection measures from medical imaging tests," reports HealthDay News.
But the organization says that "radiation doses should not be limited to one modality and a single type of scan." The FDA aims to "enroll medical device sponsors of patient dose studies, identify the types of medical images associated with patient dose, and suggest technologies that will optimize radiation doses to patients -- as well as minimize radiation doses to patients," according to META.
MITA members include: GE Medical Information Systems, Siemens, Viewray, Ven-A-Mate, Koninklijke Philips Electronics, Acuson Siemens, Corvia, Duosense, Toshiba, Ortho-Sonics, Discovery, and Star Medical.
When designing the new warning system, MITA representatives say that they considered Patient Radiation Protection as well as the fact that the "medical community is trying to ensure safe and appropriate use of radiation," according to the organization’s press release.
Organizations that represent companies involved in medical imaging and who have a vested interest in the proliferation of radioactive substances are quoted by HealthDay as worrying that "unnecessary radiation risks could ultimately reject devices that already are widely used and in many cases, to expand use," says one. d2c66b5586
